VIA-art is part of the Icelandic company VIA ltd., established and directed by the artist/printmaker and educator Valgerdur Hauksdottir. The aim of VIA-art is to promote sustainable and safe working methods for artists when creating art works, focusing on fine art printmaking. VIA-art conducts research, provides education and introduces artworks were non-toxic and sustainable methods have been used.
Valgerdur Hauksdottir holds an MFA degree in printmaking and has been professionally active as an artist/printmaker and educator of printmaking for over 30 years. In the past years Hauksdottir has increasingly turned her attention to research in non-toxic and environmentally safe working methods particularly in her area of specialisation. Previous engagements include serving as the Head of Printmaking and Vice Principal of the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts (now the Visual Art Department at the Iceland University of the Arts). Hauksdottir has been a guest lecturer/artist at several art institutions internationally. Her works have been exhibited widely and received international recognition.
